Knowing Your Diamonds

What is the foremost thought that comes to your mind when you think of buying Diamond jewellery?

“EXPENSIVE” is the first prompt and follows a series of questions like,

“Will it be worth it?”

“How do I know if it is real?”

“Is it genuine?”

“Maybe if they’re giving a certificate, it must be real.”

Or, is it right that “The bigger the diamond is, the more expensive it gets?”

But how do we decide if the Diamond we buy is genuine/authentic? Royale Diamonds has taken a step forward to assist you with this dilemma.

Consider knowing some things before buying a piece of Diamond Jewellery.

1) Carat

The Carat is the unit that measures the Diamond’s weight and size. 1 Carat equals 0.2 grams. Even a slight difference in Carat can result in a considerable money difference.

2) Colour

Diamonds are graded based on their colour. The more colourless it gets, the higher the price of the gem. Diamonds are colour graded from D-Z. Where D is the most colourless, and Z could be a significant brown or yellow colour. The ‘D’ grade diamonds are the most powerful, expensive, rare gem pieces. Even a slight colour difference in the rock can make a massive difference in the amount.

3) Clarity

Clarity refers to any blemishes, markings, or natural flaws on the Diamond. Diamonds result from carbon being constantly kept under immense heat and pressure deep in the earth. This process causes blemishes or natural markings on the gem, which can also occur during cutting. There are standard clarity grade scales that measure the quality of the Diamond:

  •  FL (Flawless)
  •  IF (Internally Flawless)
  •  VVS1 (Very, Very Slightly Included 1)
  •  VVS2 (Very, Very Slightly Included 2)
  •  VS1 (Very Slightly Included 1)
  •  VS2 (Very Slightly Included 2)
  •  SI1 (Slightly Included 1)
  •  SI2 (Slightly Included 2)
  •  I1 (Inclusions 1)
  •  I2 (Inclusions 2)

Based on the above categorisation, finding imperfections with the naked eye may be challenging, making the look Diamond dull. Royale Diamonds recommend taking expert advice before making a decision.

4) Cut

Diamonds are known and bought because they sparkle and can transmit light through them. The Cut of a diamond brings out the beauty of the gem. Cut would be number one if we were to determine the most crucial aspect of a diamond. The Cut is the most vital characteristic when buying diamond jewellery. A cut of the Diamond depends on the craftsmanship applied to the stone and its ability to interact with the light. If the Diamond does not have a Cut with precision and does not emit light through the bottom and the sides, then the Diamond will have a duller look. The Cut brings out the beauty of the Diamond.

So, whether you’re looking to buy a Diamond Ring or a small piece of Diamond Earrings, do not forget to inspect the shine and light transmission on the Diamond. These are the points that would make your Jewellery valuable.

So, next time you think of buying a piece of Diamond Jewellery, keep the word “EXPENSIVE” away and think about the 4C’s that make a diamond and know the actual value of the gem yourself.

Buy your desired piece of Diamond Jewellery without any hesitation. Remember that a big diamond does not necessarily mean an expensive or beautiful piece of jewellery. There’s way much more to consider before you decide to buy a diamond.
